Salon Operations
Database Administration

When you first start Salon Operations, a splash screen will start, allow you to start E-Z Way, or Database Maintenance.

The Database Maintenance routines allow you to maintain your database, and perform backups and recovery.

It is very import to make frequent backups, as well as making a plan to take a backup off site, in the event to hardware failure, disaster, or even theft.

I suggest buying a USB keyfob drive, or a USB portable backup drive, and make the backup part of your end of day procedure.

Some portions of the application are password protected to prevent accidental data loss. Your password is your master password entered in the Setting section. The default is "password" until you change it.
To access Restore functions, options on the right hand side that are greyed out, you will have to enter the manager key. Click Manager key, and you will enter your master password to enable the restore options.

Backups

To make a daily backup, select Backup Database, and you will see a dialog with today's backup file name. The default backup file name will have today's date, followed by the extension .BAK. This file can be copied to a portable device, or burned to a CD for archiving.

To start the backup, click Backup, and the process will begin. When the process is done, you will see a popup dialog indicating so.

If you have a portable backup device plugged in, you can select the "Copy to my Portable Backup" option, and put the drive letter of the backup device in the dialog. When the back is complete, you will be prompted to make sure your drive is connected. When you select to continue, the backup will be copied to the portable device automatically.

Note: The backup file name, will append a unique number, if today's backup file already exists. For example, if your making a second backup, you will see "_1" appended to the name.
